The post holder will need a degree on ecology or an equivalent subject, and be confident using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. They will need excellent bird identification and survey skills, and be able to carry out lone fieldwork, keeping accurate field notes and recording data on to maps. They will need good invertebrate identification skills, and to have good inter-personal skills when dealing with the public. Following recent research into house sparrow declines, a project has been set up to look at parks in London as a potential source of seeds and insects, as winter and summer food for house sparrows. With funding from SITA Trust through the Landfill Communities Fund, and additional funding from ICB-Diadem and Northern Trust, we are running trials of different habitat management types in parks.
