Specialist Consultant – Local Authority Waste Specialist

Location: Glengarnock, Scotland

THE ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:

To work within the larger UK waste and resource efficiency team but with a particular focus on Scottish based project work. Primarily to provide support, advice and mentoring, through both face-to-face and remote engagement, to local authorities to help develop their waste management operations and move towards a more resource based economy. We would anticipate that the right candidate would be able to lead on projects and have skills that are desirable to the market.  In addition you will demonstrate experience and knowledge of:

  • Local authority waste management strategies and processes
  • Waste collection strategies
  • Treatment technology option appraisals
  • Conducting service reviews
  • Service design and contract procurement
  • Waste management and materials recycling
  • Waste flow modelling and waste data manipulation
  • EU, UK and Scottish environmental legislation
  • The Scottish Government’s Zero Waste Plan and forthcoming regulations

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Technical report writing skills, including high standards of written English
  • Presentation skills, including the ability to pull together and articulate information
  • Technical analysis, including data collection, collation and manipulation using spreadsheets
  • Project specification both management and delivery, using established methodologies
  • The ability to interpret and apply QA processes
  • The ability to maintain a clear focus and work to commercial priorities
  • Educated with a Masters or honours degree qualification in a related scientific, engineering or business discipline and membership of an appropriate professional body e.g. IEMA, CIWA would be beneficial.
  • The ability to work well with limited supervision, both independently or as part of a team.
