Description
The Livelihoods Development Specialist is responsible for leading on the ground project implementation that informs high level policy recommendations and engagement with partners. The Livelihoods Development Specialist (LDS) will lead research, participatory analysis processes, and ensure coherent integration of economic development activities with conservation activities. Building from the analytical work and supporting CI–Indonesia’s priorities, the LDS will lead the economic development programming from strategy design to monitoring effectiveness of activities and is responsible for ensuring success. A central responsibility of this position will be conducting value chain analyses and facilitating value chain development in key sectors. S/he is responsible for building the capacity of staff and stakeholders to utilize good practices in economic development programming. S/he may be managing teams of people assisting with research and implementation of project activities. S/he will be working with CI’s Indonesia as well as our international teams to ensure effectiveness of implementation and coordination across thematic areas.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Implementing economic development program activities, including value chain analyses
  • Guiding economic development program design, including using a value chain-based approach
  • Building capacity of CI staff and stakeholders to use good practices in economic development programming, with specific focus on value chain approach
  • Developing training materials, reports, presentations and communications materials
 
Working Conditions:
  • This position is based in Jakarta and requires 30% travel to remote, rural areas
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Required:
  • 5 or more years managing economic development programs that includes value chain-based approaches
  • Experience working in the private sector
  • Bachelors degree in business, economics, international development or similar fields
  • Ability to work effectively in teams and manage research teams
  • Communicates clearly and effectively with diverse stakeholder groups using a variety of communication tools and methods
  • Demonstrated project reporting, workplanning, and budgeting experience
  • Previous work experience with agricultural producers, cooperatives and/or producer associations
  • Previous training experience, including developing and/or adapting training materials and providing training to diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to work under tight deadlines, prioritize effectively, be self-directed and efficiently problem solve
  • Professional fluency in Bahasa and English
 
Preferred:
  • Previous work experience with a conservation NGO
  • Previous experience owning or managing a private sector enterprise
  • Masters degree in business, economics, international development, or similar fields
  • Previous experience with microfinance
  • Demonstrated experience with monitoring and evaluating projects
