Description

The Leadership Giving Officer is a passionate and enthusiastic fundraiser who will represent IFAW and its innovative programmatic work with key supporters in the East Coast region. S/he will effectively develop and manage a portfolio of donors, providing appropriate cultivation and stewardship, as well as solicitation of gifts in the $5,000 - $10,000 range. This role will be integral to IFAW’s goal to grow the East Coast Market and increase overall US Mid-Level Giving. IFAW’s expansion in US Mid-Level Giving is critical to the overall strategic plan and one of the core components of IFAW’s future growth.

Reporting to the Director of Leadership Giving, he/she will work with the entire development team to achieve overall philanthropic goals in the US and globally. Working from a remote office, this position will have support from staff in IFAW’s Washington, D.C. Headquarters and Yarmouth Port, MA International Operations Center.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain an understanding of IFAW’s programmatic campaigns and priorities to effectively promote IFAW’s work to prospects and donors and identify key engagement approaches.
  • Manage a portfolio of mid-level donors and prospects to maximize revenue. Utilize fresh thinking to develop and implement a strategic plan to cultivate, solicit and steward supporters that will set IFAW apart from other charities they may be supporting.
  • Increase mid-level portfolio giving in the $5,000 - $10,000 range.
  • Identify donors with major gift potential within the East Coast mid-level portfolio and work with the Major Gifts team to cultivate advancement.
  • Develop pioneering personal stewardship techniques to retain and upgrade portfolio donors through enhancing their donor journey and positioning IFAW as their charity of choice.
  • Work with the Development Events Manager and Leadership Giving Stewardship Manager to develop and execute VIP experiences around IFAW Communications/media led events.
  • Develop and execute highly curated, intimate mid-level cultivation events for portfolio donors.
  • Work with the Director of Leadership Giving to determine an appropriate, integrated contact strategy for portfolio donors including fundraising and stewardship, and incorporating both personal and mass channel approaches.
  • Participate in all international Mid-Level team meetings and calls providing feedback and recommendations on the program.
  • Assist and mentor Mid-Level officers in international offices in developing successful portfolio contact strategies.
  • Respond to all inbound portfolio calls, emails, and correspondence within 24 hours.
  • Enter all donor stewardship interactions into Team Approach, in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Present IFAW’s brand in a positive and comprehensive manner.
  • Execute other tasks as directed by the Director of Leadership Giving.

    • IFAW programs, campaigns, and emergency relief efforts (current, past, planned)
    • Broad scope of animal welfare issues
    • IFAW position statements
    • IFAW marketing and fundraising efforts
    • Financial policies, tax regulations, charity watchdog ratings and other relevant financial services
    • Programs and services of other animal-related organizations

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Minimum five years mid-level or major gift experience with a proven track record of success with mid/major gift cultivation and solicitation required.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and lead donors to successful mid-level gift contributions.
  • Knowledge of fundraising techniques and moves management strategies essential.
  • A degree from a four-year college or university preferred.
  • Highly detail oriented and self-motivated with excellent time management.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced work environment within an international matrix organization.
  • Superb written and oral communication skills.
  • High proficiency in Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Team Approach, or other similar database programs
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel is expected, as needed, including IFAW Headquarters, International Operations Center, international project sites, and domestic travel for donor visits and events.
  • Flexibility to work in the evenings or weekends as required (for global IFAW calls, events, donor meetings, etc.).
