Description |
We are seeking an experienced remote sensing scientist with skills in remote sensing (RS) analyses and data application, project and proposal development, networking and collaboration, and staff support and development. The scientist will work within UNEP-WCMC’s Science Programme which aims to enhance the scientific quality of the Centre’s work through research, training and partnership development. The main purpose of the job is to provide remote sensing (RS) expertise and leadership combined with modelling and conservation analysis skills, to support a range of projects and project development opportunities. The postholder will be expected to integrate this work across the Centre, developing and managing the RS portfolio and supporting relevant staff. The Programme Officer will be engaged in remote sensing opportunity development, remote sensing network building and expansion, and quantitative project analyses that will assist the delivery of projects across the work of UNEP-WCMC. S/he will act as the Centre’s technical lead on the application of remote sensing for the assessment and monitoring of biodiversity, human pressures and ecosystem services. As well as the skills outlined above, the scientist should have experience in developing, applying and understanding analyses of space and air-borne remote sensing data and modelling approaches, and experience with any of the following: ecological/ecosystem models, model-data integration, climate or hydrological models and land-/sea-use or other biodiversity pressures models.
