Permanent -  Multiple Brand New Roles – UK Wide Hybrid Working

Great Britain's electricity infrastructure is undergoing an ambitious, exciting and vital transformation[MK1]  both onshore and offshore. Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, greener system, one that protects the planet and serves generations to come.

Joining our growing team, you will be at the heart of the energy transition working as a senior staff grade member supporting our Offshore Delivery Team, bringing your terrestrial or marine consenting expertise to help deliver our fast tracked multi billion £ projects, enabling 50GW of reneweable energy to be transmitted across the UK.

Reporting into a Consents and Lands Senior Project Manager, you will ensure that project marine or terrestrial consents are delivered economically and efficiently, in accordance with current legislation, regulations, guidance and that National Grid’s reputation continues to be enhanced.

Our main HQ is Warwick but we have existing team members all over the UK as we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home.

We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.

About you

What we do isn’t just important – it’s essential. That’s why we look to recruit experts in their field. In this case, we’re looking for someone who has:

  • Experience in the delivery of terrestrial or marine consents and EIA related activities in support of complex multi-site construction projects, to programme, cost and specification. These projects will often include significant, difficult, and often geographically dispersed or linked scopes of work
  • Capability in effectively leading and managing a substantive multi-disciplinary consents and  EIA team comprising both internal and external resources, including specialists, to deliver marine or terrestrial consents, stakeholder engagement and EIA related activities
    • Strong project management skills, specifically in relation to time, cost (forecast and actuals), scope, procurement and managing consents and Environmental Impact Assessment resources.
    • Excellent communication and presentational skills, with experience in presenting complex and contentious information to large and/or challenging external audiences.

Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of colour are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At National Grid, we’re committed to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace for everyone. So if you’re excited about this role but your experience or qualifications don’t match the job description exactly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You might just be the right person for our growing business in this role or another one.

What You’ll Do

Your core activities will include:

  • Take the lead in gaining terrestrial or marine consents for complex multi-site construction projects by leading and managing the delivery of project terrestrial or marine consents related activities through the consistent implementation of best practice, process and guidance, including effective engagement with all relevant internal stakeholders, external terrestrial or marine stakeholders and local communities.

Lead the process of challenging, advising and guiding project teams in relation to the design and development of projects, ensuring the implementation of effective project consents strategies and programmes to ensure that all terrestrial or marine consents related costs and risks are captured and managed and that the reputational impacts of making changes are fully considered.

  • Develop, lead and manage engagement strategies for strategic stakeholder relationships acting as the key interface with key terrestrial or marine external stakeholders/internal teams or persons on terrestrial or marine consenting matters.
  • Responsible for ensuring that internal and external project resource requirements are identified, procured and sufficiently embedded within the project team ahead of need, and that these resources are coached and mentored to perform effectively in relation to the delivery of terrestrial or marine consents related activities.
  • Lead, co-ordinate and organise the terrestrial or marine consents and EIA team resources to support timely, efficient and effective delivery of all project consents.

Your additional activities will be wide and varied, including ensuring quality and accuracy of project documentation, proactive management of external resources and finance, acting as an expert witness at hearings, committees and inquiries and mentoring less experienced team members to enable constant team development.

What you’ll get

A competitive starting salary between £50,000 - £60,000 – dependent on capability.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
