Position Overview:
The International Programs Officer (IPO), based in San Francisco, supports training program participants and site teams. The IPO works under the direct supervision of the FSD Executive Director and is a member of the international programs team, with regular input from other office staff members. The IPO plays a key role in supporting a dynamic international development organization by coordinating initiatives at our four Latin America sites. Due to its Latin American focus it requires a proficiency in the Spanish Language.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

A. International Program Management (approximately 40%)
• Manage site Program Directors (PDs) and Program Coordinators (PCs) to ensure consistent understanding and adherence to programmatic objectives
• Coordinate the planning and administration of Service Learning Trips (SLTs) and Global Service Trips (GSTs)
• Oversee the promotion, recruitment, and training of site team staff
• Conduct regular performance evaluations of program directors
• Provide input for program budget development
• Respond to operational inquiries from site teams
• Reinforce and clarify site team program and operational policies
• Support the professional development of FSD site personnel through field visits
• Build the capacity of the FSD site team and our partner organizations in turn
• In collaboration with sites teams, design and implement training programs that develop the capacity and skills of program participants and partner organizations
• Facilitate and follow up on management and evaluation of funded projects, partner organizations, etc program evaluation

B. Participant Relations (approximately 45%)
• Develop relationships with program participants and manage expectations for their time abroad
• Respond to inquiries from potential applicants about international programs and to applicants about the process
• Review new applications and ensure the timely delivery of supporting materials
• Respond to families, friends, and donors when necessary, both before and during participants’ time in the field
• Keep staff updated on applicant and participant status
• Enter and update applicant information and participant relations in Salesforce
• Enter and update relevant program data (host family details, host organization descriptions, project assessments, etc) in appropriate databases
• Coordinate unique applicant processes and customized curriculum with University Partners
• Manage participant invoices

C. Other Duties (approximately 15%)
• Coordinate with the communications department to ensure updates from the field (project updates, photos, videos, stories, and media) is delivered to San Francisco when needed
• The position may also be responsible for development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of Salesforce
• Represent FSD at speaking opportunities and events
• Participate in grant proposal evaluations
• Contribute content for outgoing grant proposals
• Manage and recruit IPT San Francisco interns
• Other duties as assigned by the ED

Expected Outcomes:

• Maximize the percentage of placement offers that are accepted by ensuring applicants are provided with the information they need in a way that is appropriate, accessible, timely, useful, creative and professional and so that program participants develop expectations for their experience abroad that are consistent with the intention of FSD programs
• Ensure participant’s program documentation is well organized, maintained, and clearly communicated to the FSD site team and that the site team is fully prepared to meet and manage the needs and expectations that each program participant has expressed through their interaction with FSD San Francisco
• Produce high-quality, relevant FSD materials based on program needs
• Speed the delivery of more media from the field to the communications team in San Francisco
• Increase the frequency and quality of the capacity building and training activities taking place at our international sites

Supervision and Guidance:

The International Programs Officer functions under the direct supervision of the Executive Director and in coordination with other SF staff and FSD site teams abroad. The IPO performs many of their designated job functions independently. Performance evaluation is based upon successfully meeting the objectives set out in this description.

Desired Qualifications:

• Education: University degree in International Development, International/Regional Studies, Business or related field
• Prior Experience: project management, monitoring and evaluation, donor management and customer service; experience working, living or traveling in Latin America, East Africa, or India; volunteer/intern management experience a plus
• Language Proficiency: Proficiency in Spanish is required for this position
• Knowledge: Microsoft office suite (excel especially) and phone skills. Good working knowledge of sustainable development and global culture/history/current events; demonstrated ability to deliver high quality customer service
• Skills and Abilities:
Excellent customer service/sales skills

Ability to represent FSD effectively with the public, applicants, and clients
Excellent interpersonal skills
Excellent oral and written communication with strong editing skills
