Junior low-carbon originator, Washington DC

My client is a leading carbon finance boutique specializing in sourcing and developing low carbon projects across the emerging markets and also buying and selling carbon credits for their proprietary portfolio and on behalf of clients. They are currently looking to hire an Analyst level candidate to join their team in Washington DC to focus on renewable energy projects in Latin America and Africa.

Responsibilities of the role will be:

• Travelling frequently to various locations in South America, Africa (especially South Africa), as well as occasionally India and China, to review and analyse potential new projects suitable for investment
• Targeting small scale projects for post 2012
• Working on all small scale carbon assets currently within the portfolio in Latin America and Africa
• Working on various deal structures and spreadsheets

Skills and qualifications needed:

• You need an MSC or other masters degree in finance, financial mathematics or a similarly numerate subject
• Excellent at using and making spreadsheets
• 1-2 years’ experience working on CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) projects or in the carbon trading markets
• Work permit or passport that is valid and allows you to work for a different company in the US
• Languages such as Spanish, Portuguese and French would be very helpful. Excellent English is a must.
