Description |
Established in 1990, we’re the UK’s statutory advisor on issues affecting the natural environment across the UK and internationally. Our primary role is advising all four Governments of the UK. We also work with private sector organisations to support decision making on the sustainable use of marine waters and natural resources around the UK. JNCC is led by the Joint Committee, which brings together members from the nature conservation bodies for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and independent members appointed by the Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs under an independent Chair. Support is provided to the Committee by almost 200 people who bring together scientific and technical expertise, extensive knowledge of policy at global, European and national levels, and skills in working with other organisations. Staff currently have bases in two main offices in Peterborough and Aberdeen. What are the roles?
JNCC is looking for two team leaders to jointly take responsibility for JNCC’s role in advice provision to a variety of customers (government, regulatory and commercial) in the UK offshore energy sector. Post 1 will have a long-term portfolio focus on oil and gas, marine aggregates and cables sectors, marine planning and pollution response. Post 2 will have a portfolio focus on the offshore wind power sector. The two successful candidates will work closely together to provide resilience to the leadership of a dynamic portfolio and will have shared responsibilities for team and corporate management. This is an exciting time within marine management, as biodiversity and climate change priorities compete in a busy marine space alongside ambitious government targets for marine renewable energy deployment and other industrial uses of the sea (such as oil & gas, cables and marine aggregates extraction). A significant amount of this work seeks to ensure that the UK network of Marine Protected Areas is maintained in good condition into the future. Who are we looking for?
We are looking for people experienced in team leadership, with excellent interpersonal skills and who can provide clear and visible leadership to a team of specialists with a focus on quality science, technical delivery and advice provision. To be successful in this role you will have proven ability to communicate in a clear and effective manner, including the ability to discuss technical issues with both specialists and non-specialists. You will develop relationships and build consensus to deliver common objectives and represent JNCC at senior level. You will be able to solve problems where there is no precedent and make decisions by pragmatically weighing up complex issues and risks. Why JNCC?We’re small enough (c.200 staff) that your voice is heard by everyone including the CEO, but big enough that we have all the skills, resources and people you’ll need to get the job done. All our staff are passionate about conservation and making a difference to the world we live in. We have a very flexible, inclusive and welcoming organisational culture. Our Executive Management provides advisors with the freedom and tools you will need, and our friendly team will assist you in your role. You will benefit from our supportive workplace culture, excellent holiday and pension benefits, as well as an exciting job in a unique environment. Assessment We will assess you against the Behaviours listed below, and the Experience and Technical requirements outlined in the Post Details.
