Conservation International’s Verde Ventures Program is seeking an Investment Officer for the Neotropics. Verde Ventures invests in small and medium conservation enterprises and currently manages a portfolio of sustainable coffee and cacao and ecotourism investments in the Neotropics region. The Investment Officer will be responsible for the development and management of investments in coordination with the Verde Ventures team located in CI’s Headquarters in Arlington, Virginia.

Position requires up to 25% travel to field projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develop investment pipeline with focus in Mexico and Central America, as well as South America
  2. Perform due-diligence on potential portfolio investments
  3. Negotiate terms of investments and present vetted projects to committee
  4. Develop legal contracts for approved investments
  5. Monitor projects and provide technical support to clients 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in business/finance with 3 years of related work experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of rural financing experience with a commercial bank or micro finance institution
  • Understanding of investment challenges in developing countries
  • Fluency in written and spoken Spanish and English
  • Financial analysis and risk assessment skills through advanced Excel proficiency

Preferred:

  • MBA/International Development or Economics
  • Demonstrated field experience in agricultural credit
