Description

SeaWeb, an international, nonprofit, communications organization dedicated to creating a culture of ocean conservation, seeks an Intern to be based in the Washington, D.C. area office. The Intern will provide professional and administrative support to the organization's operations, communications, and advancement teams.

This is an unpaid internship. It is an exciting opportunity for someone who is dedicated to improving ocean conservation and gaining experience working for a non-profit organization. Hours are flexible to accommodate class schedule or other commitments. We request a minimum commitment of 20 hours a week, and prefer someone who can work four days a week, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, or 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Intern Position responsibilities likely to include:

Communication projects (50 percent):

  • Identify content for SeaWeb's various social media outlets, including multiple Facebook and Twitter pages.
  • Write budgetlines for material posted to Facebook and Twitter pages.
  • Update Facebook and Twitter Pages daily and increase external social media presence among targeted audiences.
  • Help keep updated SeaWeb's various website properties.
  • Identify, capture, and archive relevant news items.
  • Maintain various databases, including clips, press lists, and more.
  • Organize data and conduct research for various campaigns.
  • Assist in public relations distribution, including helping with press calls.

Administrative and Financial projects (50 percent):

  • Assist with general office support, such as answering phones, mailings, filings, ordering supplies, and copying .
  • Conduct basic research to assist with foundation outreach, individual donor cultivation, and operations.
  • Collect timesheets and help track travel miles for carbon offsets.
  • Maintain general SeaWeb email accounts, list-serves, and staff rosters.
  • Assist with grant management, as needed.
  • Potential to draft proposals and reports.

Other projects may be assigned.

Skills/Qualifications sought:

  • Commitment to environmental issues.
  • Detail oriented and highly organized.
  • Solid communication skills, including some experience with social media or public relations as desirable.
  • Reliability.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage time well.
  • Some experience with reception or general office management is desired, but not required.
  • Knowledge of French (useful, but not required).
  • A high school diploma is preferred.
