The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado is the nation’s primary laboratory for research, development and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. The ideal candidate will help assemble and test systems for photovoltaic research. The Center for Photovoltaics will be building multiple high vacuum systems for the transport of samples. These are unique custom engineered systems that consist of a mobile unit and a stationary docking unit. During the summer the intern will assist with assembling multiple units and testing them with multiple systems. Assembly and integration work will expose the intern to many automation and vacuum technologies.
Assist senior technicians and engineers in assembling and testing our high vacuum sample transport system. Work includes assembly of mechanical and electrical subsystems. Testing will require installing the docking stations at multiple automated research tools.
Must be enrolled as a full-time student.

Graduate students enrolled in a minimum of nine credit hours.

Undergraduate students enrolled in a minimum of twelve credit hours.

Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.

Must be a United States citizen or permanent resident.
Must be able to read assembly drawings and engineering documents. Should be proficient with email, word processing, spreadsheets, and hand tools.
Some exposure to Solidworks, Labview or PLC programming would be great.
