Internship - GSCP research assistant 

CIES in Paris is seeking a highly motivated intern for its Global Social Compliance Programme. The role: research assistance in the field of sustainable development, including data collection, literature research and the draft of background papers and other tasks to be defined.The intern will report directly to the Global Social Compliance Programme’s team and will be working on topics related to sustainable development such as environmental standards, social standards and labour rights.  

The Global Social Compliance Programme: GSCP is a business-driven programme for companies who want to harmonise their existing efforts in order to deliver a shared, consistent and global approach for the continuous improvement of working conditions in global supply chains.To this end, GSCP offers a global platform to promote knowledge exchange and best practices in order to build comparability and transparency between existing systems, whether individual or collaborative. The Programme’s main objectives are:  To define a clear and consistent message on fair labour conditions to suppliers and public authorities by building consensus on existing best practices / To coordinate existing industry efforts to allow for: ·      Mutual recognition of audit results and reduction of duplication ·      Better allocation of resources to help suppliers implement fair labour conditions ·      The development of adapted collaborative training and capacity/capability building activities in partnership with suppliers ·      A constructive dialogue with civil society stakeholders, institutions and authorities

Location: Paris, 75008 

Contract: Internship for 6 months, beginning March 2009. Stipend according to French legal provisions for internships.

The Candidate: Familiarity with topics related to sustainable development / A recent Bachelor’s degree (minimum) or Master’s degree in international relations, political science, economy or similar /    Communication, journalistic,writing background highly desirable /    Interest to work in an international environment /  Enrolled at university throughout the whole period of the internship / Previous experience within an international relations environment - NGO is an asset 

Other Requirements: Excellent English and French communication and writing skills / IT literate - MS Office & Internet 

Personality Profile: Extremely rigorous /  Organisational skills, an eye for details / Ability to work autonomously / Flexibility, ability to carry out multiple tasks / Service-oriented, professional /Able to adapt easily to different people, cultures and places /  Resourceful / Pro-active
