Salary: £28,958 (Please note a pay award is pending so this figure is expected to increase)                                 

This post will have a base in either Peterborough or Aberdeen.

JNCC has adopted a hybrid working approach, allowing colleagues to benefit from time in the office, with the flexibility also to work from home. Employees are expected to work from our office base for 1 – 2 days a month as a minimum, this will vary by team and the exact balance will depend on the nature of your role. Who are JNCC?

Established in 1991, we’re the UK’s statutory advisor on issues affecting the natural environment across the UK and internationally. Our primary role is advising all four Governments of the UK. We also work with private sector organisations to support decision making on the sustainable use of marine waters and natural resources around the UK. JNCC is led by the Joint Committee, which brings together members from the nature conservation bodies for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and independent members appointed by the Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs under an independent Chair. Support is provided to the Committee by approx. 290 people who bring together scientific and technical expertise, extensive knowledge of policy at global, European and national levels, and skills in working with other organisations. Staff are based in two main offices in Peterborough and Aberdeen.

Hours of work:                     Full-time

Normal minimum hours of attendance for the post are 36 hours per week over a 5-day period, Monday to Friday.

Flexi time is available. This post may also be suitable for job share.

Annual Leave:

Due to our strong track record in the delivery of expert advice on Marine Protected Areas, JNCC is a delivery partner of the Ocean Country Partnership Programme (OCPP) which is funded through official development assistance (ODA) as part of the UK’s £500 million Blue Planet Fund. Through the OCPP, JNCC works to partner with ODA-eligible countries delivering tangible and positive impacts on the livelihoods of coastal communities that depend on healthy marine ecosystems.

As the International Co-Ordination Project Officer at JNCC, you will be responsible for supporting the technical delivery of our work within the OCPP, ensuring our team’s efforts are focused on the top priorities and following the correct procedures. The role will involve the provision of logistical support and programme administration to our busy team in a range of areas including finances, procurement, staff resource and travel planning, organisation of workshops and meetings, overseas risk assessments and project management.

Due to the diversity of the skills required for the job we are looking for a dynamic person who is flexible to demands and willing to learn; training and staff development are important to our team and JNCC such that support is available to supplement skills demanded of this role.

The role will involve close working relationships with corporate services and technical specialist colleagues to support delivery of work and technical assistance in target countries. The work may also involve working externally with organisations such as governments and commercial contractors.

It will be your responsibility to work with the delivery team and key staff to support other aspects of the team’s work as required, to improve the team’s flexibility and resilience.

Job Description:

Post Duties

The successful candidate will be expected to:

·       Form a critical part of JNCC’s team responsible for delivering the Ocean Country Partnership Programme, specifically taking a leading role in co-ordinating financial support on procurement, contract management and project administration.

·       Co-ordinate and manage travel logistics for international deployments, drafting and evaluating risk assessments and supporting deployment planning (including travel bookings) and liaising with JNCC travel team to strengthen internal travel policies and processes.

·       Help support the logistics of meetings and workshop planning in both domestic and international context.

·       Communicate and collaborate effectively between key teams across the International Directorate of JNCC as well as corporate services including Finance & Planning, Health & Safety and Travel.

·       Liaise with international colleagues when supporting logistics for in country delivery.

·       It is preferable that you have a working background in finance / contract management and an aptitude for travel logistics.

 

Technical

To be a successful candidate you will have:

·       A working background in finance, project administration or travel logistics ideally with qualifications that provides the following knowledge, experience and behaviours.

Experience (Responsibilities)

To be a successful candidate you will have:

·       Proficient financial management skills with a strong preference towards procurement / contract management

·       Competent using a variety of IT programmes and finance systems and familiarity with developing risk assessments regarding travel (ideally international)

·       Experience working with internal and external stakeholders and building successful working relationships
