We are developing a project with a large department store to run in May 2011 for 6 weeks. As part of this we are committed to a) support them in moving to entirely sustainable seafood in their store and associated concessions; b) giving technically accurate advice to support communication materials on sustainable seafood; c) surveying shops and restaurants in the surrounding area for seafood use and attitudes; d) liaising and collaborating with the NGO community working on sustainable seafood; e) improving the sustainable seafood guidance and usage at ZSL.

A successful candidate must have an undergraduate and preferably a Masters level degree in Marine Biology or a related subject. A successful candidate will be self motivated and have strong research skills, and excellent written and oral communication skills. Existing knowledge of fisheries, sustainability and marine policy would be advantageous.

The internship is for six months, starting as soon as possible. The role is full time (5 days) and is based within ZSL’s Conservation Programmes department in Regent’s Park. All applicants must be able to show that they have permission to work in the UK.

Please note that this is a voluntary position. However, ZSL will reimburse travel costs from within the Greater London area (zones 1-6) and lunches (max £5 a day).

This is an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to further their knowledge of conservation and to relevant gain essential conservation experience.
