An assessment of bycatch impacts on regional sea turtle populations and in particular fishing gear types is necessary to prioritize conservation efforts and resources toward the most urgent bycatch situations. This project will build on past work by compiling and organizing all available sea turtle bycatch data to identify the sea turtle Regional Management Units most threatened by bycatch as well as particular fishing gears that most contribute to these threats. We will refine an existing database containing all published sea turtle bycatch rates worldwide from 1990-2008, and tally and assess relative population-level impacts of several different fisheries operations on sea turtle populations.
