Directory Entry : Every person on Earth deserves a healthy environment and the fundamental benefits that nature provides. But our planet is experiencing an unprecedented drawdown of these resources, and it is only by protecting nature and its gifts; a stable climate, fresh water, healthy oceans and reliable food; that we can ensure a better life for everyone, everywhere.

CI’s Center for Conservation and Government is looking for a Climate Adaptation Policy Intern. The intern will support CI’s work on climate change adaptation policy and capacity building by: 1) researching current adaptation policy and supporting CI’s engagement with the UNFCCC (including the Nairobi Work Program, the Adaptation Partnership, contributing to policy briefs and side event planning); and 2) compiling and formatting information about CI adaptation work on the ground in at least 3 countries to create brochure communication documents as three case studies and support CI’s “lessons learned” articulation in ecosystem approaches to adaptation. The intern will be based in CI’s Arlington, VA headquarters, and minimal travel to meetings in the DC area may be required.

The intern will have an increased understanding of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and supporting policy mechanisms in relation to climate change adaptation. They will also gain an understanding of ecosystem approaches to adaptation and the integration of local and traditional knowledge as valuable climate risk information. The intern will gain a strong understanding of CI’s work in adaptation, specifically a detailed understanding of three of CI’s efforts on adaptation on the ground.
