Description
Campaign for Better Transport is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic person to work in our small and dynamic Campaigns and Communications team. Candidates should have a keen interest in the work of Campaign for Better Transport and a passion for the environment.

The candidate should be able to commit to volunteering for two to three days a week (14 - 21 hours a week) for a minimum of three months.

This position will give the post-holder a valuable insight into an environmental campaigning organisation working to reduce traffic and improve alternatives to cars, lorries and planes.

Typical tasks may involve:

  • Assisting in the organising of events
  • Conducting research for current and future campaigns, using internal sources and the internet
  • Conducting research interviews
  • Writing up research and writing background documents
  • Speaking to internal and external audiences about our work
  • Sending out campaign information to supporters
  • Attending staff meetings and other internal meetings
  • Providing support with a range of administrative duties including: administrative support for team members, maintaining the database, answering the telephone and checking campaigns emails
  • Performing routine tasks such as photocopying and stuffing envelopes

Person specification

The successful candidate will:

  • Be motivated, flexible, enthusiastic and organised
  • Have a good level of literacy
  • Have basic proficiency in word processing, email and the internet
  • Be flexible and able to respond to unexpected situations with good humour
  • Be able to work as part of a team
  • Be committed to the organisation’s equal opportunities and health and safety policies and accept personal responsibility for implementing these
  • Have a passion for the environment and a strong interest in transport issues and be committed to Campaign for Better Transport’s aims to reduce traffic and improve alternatives to cars, lorries and planes
