Reports To:  Director of Field Operations

Summary: Come join a fast-paced, ever-evolving growth environment dedicated to helping homeowners spend less to be more comfortable in their homes. Successful candidates will join a two person team, consisting of a Home Energy Advisor Lead and a Home Energy Advisor Technician, conducting comprehensive and precise residential home energy assessments in accordance with the standards in the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund and Next Step Living practices. The Home Energy Advisor Technician will assist the Home Energy Advisor Lead in educating home owners in energy efficiency practices – both basic weatherization improvements as well as deeper energy saving measures. The Home Energy Advisor Technician will focus on implementing the most impactful efficiency upgrades as determined by the Home Energy Advisor Lead during the assessment ranging from installation of energy efficient lighting to air sealing large bypasses in the attic and basement. Home Energy Advisors Technician must be able to travel daily to customer homes to perform home assessments in their personal vehicles.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Follow Home Energy Advisor Lead’s direction and help identify energy efficiency opportunities through the home, focusing in attics, basements and crawlspaces. Complete blower door and duct leakage testing.
  • Install instant savings measures such as compact fluorescent lamps, efficient showerheads and faucet aerators, pipe wrap. Crawl through attics, basement and crawlspaces air sealing with low expansion foam, caulk and other sealants.
  • Identify and seal leaks in duct work.
  • Set up and breakdown blower door and duct leakage testing equipment
  • Assist with detailed and accurate data collection and measurements.
  • Interact with homeowners and tenants, answering questions regarding energy efficiency in conjunction with the Home Energy Advisor Lead
  • Position requires flexibility to work evenings and weekends    

New hires begin as Trainees while they complete classroom and field training. Upon successful completion of the training, Trainees are promoted to Home Energy Advisor Technicians and begin their individual home assessment schedule. A Trainee completes classroom training on program rules, detailed insulation and air sealing implementation protocols, general building science practices and Next Step Living procedures.  

 

Qualifications:

·         Residential Construction or Carpentry experience, with hands-on weatherization work including air sealing and blown-in cellulose preferred

·         Good problem solving and troubleshooting skills

·         Clear, effective communication skills

·         Strong interpersonal skills, enabling the Technician to interact successfully with a wide range of customers and employees

·         Ability and desire to learn quickly, take direction well, take initiative, and contribute to a team

·         Proficiency in working with hand and power tools and equipment

·         Comfort with working in tight spaces or on ladders, as well as in working in adverse weather conditions

·         Ability to take initiative and responsibility

Must pass extensive pre-employment national criminal background check and drug screening and have a valid driver’s license with at least three (3) year’s clean driving record.
