Visits homes of customers to identify conditions that cause energy waste and recommends actions to improve comfort, safety energy efficiency including weatherization, insulation, and deeper green retrofits.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 
  • Interviews customer to obtain data relating to household energy use such as type of heating system, number of persons home during day, thermostat setting, and prior year’s energy costs
  • Draws sketch of home. Takes exact and detailed measurements of the home: perimeter, ceiling height, volume, windows, and doors and records dimensions on sketch for use in heat-loss calculations and follow up work scope
  • Inspects all areas of home including; attics, crawl spaces, living space and basements. Notes conditions that contribute to excessive energy loss, such as major air leakage, poorly performing or inadequate insulation, dilapidated windows  uninsulated pipes, and deficient insulation
  • Performs infrared camera, blower door, and combustion analysis tests
  • Reads hot water tank label to ascertain tank heat loss rating and determine need for tank insulation blanket
  • Examines furnace air filters and heat exchanger to detect dirt in filters and soot buildup in exchanger that retard efficient furnace operation
  • Confers with customer and recommends action to be taken to reduce energy waste such as weather-stripping, reducing hot water temperature setting, and adding insulation
  • Informs customer of types and prices of energy efficiency items sold by company
  • Gives customer pamphlets describing energy conservation improvements and sources of loans, rebates or tax incentives available
  • Wraps insulating blanket around hot water tank
  • Calculates area of windows and home volume and records results on computer input form to provide data for computer calculation of heat loss estimates that are mailed to customer
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather), work near moving mechanical parts, extreme cold and heat (non-weather)
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outdoor weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
  • Regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  •  Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software; Design software; Salesforce.com order processing systems and Project Management software
  • BPI Building Analyst Certification strongly preferred , LEED or HERS a plus
