Primary Purpose Of the Job:

Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive Renewable Energy Strategy for the Ministry of Energy. Lead the analysis of investment opportunities for QP in the area of renewable energy. Lead the monitoring of trends in renewable energy technologies and the analysis of the implications of these trends for QP and the State of Qatar. Act as the link between the Ministry of Energy and other areas of government on issues concerning renewable energy projects and policies (e.g. the Ministry of Environment, Qatar Foundation, Kahramaa, etc)

Education:

University Degree in Economics (or Business), Energy Studies, Renewable Energy or Engineering, preferably with post-graduate qualifications

Experience & Skills:
  • Likely to have at least 15 years experience in the field of energy economics, energy studies, renewable energy policy or energy engineering preferably with exposure to the oil and gas industry (but might be less if the candidates has a combination of industry and senior level experience that is exceptionally well matched to the position requirements)
  • Ability to lead the formulation of national policies and to identify emerging technologies
  • Expert understanding of the international energy landscape and the role that renewable energy within this landscape (both now and in the future)
  • An expert technical understanding of alternative energy technologies (particularly solar energy technologies), the policies used to promote these technologies and the impact of these technologies on fossil fuels markets
  • The ability to lead the formulation and review of research and development initiatives pertaining to renewable energy
  • The ability to effectively communicate complex issues to high-level audiences (including Ministers and Directors)
  • Highly developed management skills and the ability to work within and lead multidisciplinary teams
  • Must have extremely well developed mentoring and project management skills
  • Must be self-sufficient in basic computer software (Word, Excel, etc).
