We are looking for a dynamic individual driven by a desire to improve the conservation of threatened species and habitats. You will be an experienced nature conservation practioner, a powerful advocate of change and innovative in your approach. You have what it takes to influence others to manage their land for wildlife. You will be able to see the big picture, lead and motivate a diverse team whilst thriving under pressure. You will be able to translate conservation policy into practice and the strategic insight to ensure that we learn from experience. In short, you have what it takes to help others step up for nature. We have created a new Species and Habitats Conservation Department. This is in response to the challenges established in the RSPB's emerging Strategic Plan. We have ambitions to do more for birds and other biodiversity and have established a number of outcomes and milestones which will guide our conservation ambitions. The RSPB has a significant conservation delivery programme both on and off reserves. We plan to increase the scale of this activity during the strategy period. The postholder will lead the RSPB's conservation delivery activities and programmes primarily (but not exclusively) beyond reserves, with the aim of securing improved prospects for the RSPB's priority species and habitats. This will involve overseeing four major work areas: advice to land managers; nature recovery projects, planning and reporting; investigations and the Futurescapes programme. The postholder will seek to develop extremely close working relationships with the Head of Reserves and Protected Areas so that we have an integrated conservation delivery programme. The postholder will also be expected to develop excellent working relationships with colleagues in other Directorates so that our delivery programme is coherent across the UK.
