Our Consultancy & Advisory Services team provides our clients with outstanding technical expertise that enables the successful implementation of complex sustainability projects. Our expertise spans across multiple topics including land and water management, climate strategies, renewable energies, environmental impact assessments, green products, climate policy, carbon pricing, climate finance, and sustainable finance, to name just a few. Job summary:
As part of the global climate strategy advisory team, you will lead the Environmental Impact Accounting (EIA) team, being responsible for assuring efficient implementation and thematic offering/strategy development. You will guide and supervise international project teams. You will also lead the development of proposals and participate in business development activities and new service creation. You will take responsibility for the quality and the commercial viability of the engagements and help South Pole remain a national and international leading provider of sustainability solutions. You will also be instrumental in developing our GHG accounting tools and software in collaboration with our software development team
Main tasks & responsibilities:
- Lead the development of the services and products of the team in alignment with South Pole’s vision and strategy
- Lead the team by:
- Ensuring that South Pole has the resources to deliver the strategy and targets of the team. This includes participating in hiring processes, the onboarding of new team members and contributing to staff development and training;
- Coordinating and chairing team meetings to ensure knowledge transfer and to foster team spirit.
- Lead the planning, management and execution of consulting mandates with the necessary know-how and skillset to ensure the most efficient and highest-quality implementation
- Participate in business strategy and leadership relevant internal discussions to well position our corporate consulting activities within South Pole’s overall business and offering
- The topics of engagement will focus on GHG Accounting and disclosure, Plastics Footprint, Water Footprint. Occasionally, some projects might extend to additional environmental impacts and corporate sustainability topics such as biodiversity, climate change mitigation, Science Based Targets (SBTs), materiality assessment, and Life Cycle Analysis (LCA)
- As a senior expert, provide supervision, guidance and technical leadership in international consulting mandates
- Lead and directly manage consultant teams in a multi-stakeholder and multi-geographies context
- Set up, manage and develop processes and frameworks of Environmental Impact Accounting (specifically GHG accounting, Plastics Footprinting and Water Footprints), ensuring aligned methodology and high standard of deliverables in line with international South Pole hr@southpole.com standards in South Pole across the globe
- Manage information materials on the footprinting services for the Key Account Management and BD teams
- Lead and initiate initiatives in order to improve Environmental Impact Accounting within South Pole, e.g. on knowledge management and quality assurance processes
- Act as an interface towards other products lines, marketing, etc, representing the EIA practice
- Accommodate on-boarding of new team members - e.g. arrange standard training plans and ensure training material are updated
- Support Key Account Managers and regional leads in team composition as well as technical topics on GHG accounting
- Responsibility for leading the technical content of the Climate Neutral labels standards
- Work with the internal development team to develop new digital capabilities and improve existing Environmental Impact Assessment Tooling for internal and external use.
Requirements:
Essential -
- A university degree, ideally in Environmental Sciences or Engineering, Business Management, Economics or other sustainability or business-related disciplines
- At least 7 years of relevant work experience in the corporate sector at least partly in corporate consulting
- Sound understanding of environmental sustainability challenges in multinational companies
- Business development and commercial skills to be able to identify and seize opportunities in a challenging and competitive market environment
- Leadership and strategic management experience
- Very good familiarity with current international standards, protocols and requirements on GHG, water and plastics accounting
- Familiarity and work experience with environmental data management systems (e.g. Enablon, SoFi, Credit 360 or SAP CarbonImpact) and data visualisation tools such as Tableau and/or Power BI.
- Specific consultancy experience in topics related to environmental (carbon, plastics, water) footprinting and disclosure
- Experienced project manager in a multi-stakeholder and multi-geographies/international context
- Proven knowledge and network in the relevant fields and region
- Excellent oral and written skills in English
Desirable -
- Practical experience in change management and sustainability strategy development.
- Good working knowledge of all Google Suite applications and MS Word.
- Diligent, reliable and proactive.
- Fully comfortable operating in a fast-paced international environment.
- Excellent prioritisation and time management skills.
