Description

ROLE PURPOSE: 

·         Advising the Director of Programmes, staff at WSPA HQ and regional offices worldwide about learning processes and materials appropriate to support WSPA global animal welfare programmes, namely: companion animals, farm animals, wildlife, member society development and disaster management.

·         Representing WSPA with governments, international bodies and NGOs on education matters.

·         Reviewing and revising the WSPA Global Education Strategy and advising regional directors and education staff on respective regional- level education strategies.

·         Exploring the potential for WSPA to provide distance learning.

·         Developing and implementing appropriate programmes and supporting materials.

·         Overseeing the set-up and operation of WSPA education conferences, workshops and other learning experiences nationally and internationally.  

ROLE OBJECTIVES:  

·           Reviewing and expanding the WSPA Global Learning Strategy to cover all animal welfare subject areas, a comprehensive range of audiences and appropriate learning methods.

·           Drawing up institution-based programmes and syllabi covering animal welfare and generating necessary learning materials for a broad range of audiences including: veterinary and agricultural science / practitioners, school children and member societies; refine and adapt to specific educational groups on a case-by-case basis.

·           Developing and implementing appropriate distance learning programmes to support both programmes and WSPA member society development initiatives.

·           Providing specialist advice on education and learning issues to HQ WSPA staff and global offices, conferences, workshops and learning events worldwide.

·           Assessing and coordinating production of education materials created by WSPA globally.

·           Supervising the development of WSPA ‘Concepts in Animal Welfare’ veterinary syllabus including the translation and reproduction of material worldwide.

·           Supervising the further development of the WSPA IN AWE (humane education) programme. 

·           Organising content and presenting at conferences, seminars, workshops and training programmes, including capacity building train-the-trainer events overseas.

·           Overseeing all aspects of the management of the Education Budget.

·           Liaising and collaborating with universities, UK and foreign government officials, educationalists, veterinarians and other professionals on behalf of WSPA

·           Representing WSPA at external conferences and meetings

·           Presenting to external audiences at various levels 

 ·         Developing WSPA Global Education Strategy that both stands alone and that also compliments and supports all the other animal welfare strategies
