We are seeking to employ an enthusiastic individual to manage a team of presently five staff in the country programmes unit of the RSPB's Global Programmes Department. The aim of the unit is to work with a number of BirdLife International Partners in Africa, Asia and the Middle East, as well as Partners in the UK Overseas Territories to build local capacity; to develop, fundraise for and implement high quality conservation projects, and to promote appropriate policies both in the UK and Overseas. You should have good knowledge of international conservation issues and priority setting. You should also have work experience in NGO development, fundraising, project planning/ management/ evaluation, and advocacy preferably in developing countries. A degree in a relevant subject is essential. You should have staff management experience and must be able to work with authority under minimum supervision and have good presentation and communication skills. Excellent diplomatic and negotiation skills are also required. You will be expected to spend a significant number of nights and weekends away from home each year, the majority of which are unaccompanied and overseas. The ability to work effectively under difficult conditions is essential.
