BirdLife International is the world’s largest nature conservation partnership. Through our unique local-to-global approach, we deliver high impact and long-term conservation for the benefit of nature and people.
We are looking for someone to supervise program delivery and support others in securing the financial resources for the implementation of the BirdLife Global Programs in the Americas (in line with the Americas Regional Program and the overall BirdLife Global Strategy 2014–2020), with a particular focus on advancing actions through the Flyways, IBA and Climate Change programs, and the Hemispheric Grasslands Alliance initiative.
This person will:
• Provide technical leadership in the development and implementation of the BirdLife Global Programs in the Americas, with specific focus on strategic development of the Flyways Program (including coastal wetlands), IBA Program and Climate Change Program
• Lead, manage and coordinate a team of Biodiversity Conservation Managers in the delivery of a coherent Conservation Action and Science program in line with the Americas Regional Program.
• Lead on, with support of the Regional Director, specific aspects (multi-institutional planning, donor relations and fundraising) of the development and implementation of coherent Americas Flyways and Climate Change programs.
• In supporting the Conservation Managers, provide strategic, institutional and technical support to selected BirdLife Partners, and selected “potential” Partners in relation to Conservation program development.
• Provide Conservation and Science leadership for the Americas Secretariat team, Partnership and Regional Council.
• Ensure that the Americas conservation programs are underpinned by a strong scientific foundation with specific attention to the Flyways and Climate Change programs.
The ideal candidate will have a genuine interest in the environment, biodiversity conservation and civil society; experience of forging collaborative partnerships; experience of project design and planning; proposal writing; fundraising; and international project coordination/ implementation.
The job holder will be a team leader and a team player, but have the ability to work independently, being motivated by a passion for bird and biodiversity conservation in the Americas.
