Job Title: Habitat Restoration Program Director
Office Location: Corvallis, Oregon
The Institute for Applied Ecology’s Habitat Restoration Program seeks a director
with strong business and grant writing skills and a background in ecology,
restoration or wildlife to lead and grow the program.
The Institute for Applied Ecology (IAE) is a dynamic nonprofit organization whose
mission is conservation of native species and habitats through restoration, research
and education. The Habitat Restoration Program of IAE conducts ecological
restoration of Pacific Northwest habitats through on-the-ground restoration,
developing ecologically appropriate seed mixes, cultivating partnerships that
promote regional conservation, and advancing restoration science techniques.
Duties of the Habitat Restoration Program Director include:
? Promotes, administers, and continues the development of the program
mission and structure
? Writes grants and acquires funding to support entire program
? Manages projects, contracts, and budgets
? Supervises and manages staff
? Coordinates with partners, contractors, and other IAE programs
? Presents information to funders, partners, and the public
? Writes reports and manuscripts
? Supports field operations and scientific endeavors
Specific responsibilities include:
? Supervise 3 or more full-time professional / technical staff; manage work
plans and hiring needs.
? Acquire outside funding to support the program’s mission:
o restore native habitats for the benefit of wildlife and species recovery
o provide high quality native plant materials for restoration
o increase capacity, infrastructure, & markets for plant production and
restoration
o increase knowledge of best restoration practices.
? Work with IAE Executive Director and Board to meet program goals.
? Coordinate with a diversity of public and private landowners, conservation
organizations, and seed producers to meet the goals of the restoration
community.
? Assist with habitat restoration program operations including plant materials
acquisition, production and out-planting, restoration planning, and regional
conservation coordination.
? Disseminate information about our program findings and accomplishments
through report writing, web and journal publications, and presentations at
meetings and conferences.
? Out-of-town travel required as needed to complete work and attend meetings
and conferences. Field work is a minor component of this position.
Minimum Qualifications:
? Master’s degree (preferred) with 2 years experience or Bachelor’s degree
plus 5 years experience
? experience managing multiple / complex projects simultaneously
? proven leadership skills
? record of funded grants
? strong fiscal management and organization skills
? strong background in both oral and written communication
? excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office applications including Word,
Excel, and Access,
? Experience with prairie ecosystems preferred, particularly Pacific Northwest
habitats.
Compensation and start date:
? The pay rate for this position will be $3440 to $4300 per month, based on
education, skills and experience.
? This is a full-time position and is eligible for IAE’s competitive benefits
package, including health insurance.
? Preference will be given to applicants who can start May 3rd, 2010 or earlier.
