Description

We are looking for volunteers to assist in a PhD project between April to November 2012. This project is investigating human access in grizzly bear habitat and implications for bear behaviour.  The study region is in Central-West Alberta, situated in and around Whitehorse Wildlands Park. 

 

Duties include:

-       checking and maintaining trail cameras

-       questionnaire distribution to recreational users (on human-bear conflicts)

-       bear food surveys

-       data entry and preliminary analysis

 

Accommodation is basic (park ranger cabin, limited electricity from generator), and camping may be required at times. Internet and cellphone access limited to town visits.  Food and accommodation covered.

 

A minimum of 3 months commitment is needed.

 

Qualifications:

 

-       Minimum B.Sc in Zoology, Ecology, Wildlife Management, Conservation or a similar field.

-       Previous field experience desired, although not necessary. Good physical condition essential, able to hike a minimum of 10 km a day in mountainous terrain and unpredictable weather.

-       Drivers license (minimum 2 years driving experience, preferably some 4WD).
