Early Detection and Rapid Response for Invasive Alien Plant Species Programme

SANBI is looking for a highly motivated, well organized and efficient individual to manage GIS data on emerging invasive alien species. The post requires a GIS technician with an understanding of biodiversity and invasive alien species, who can co-ordinate information gathering, prepare appropriate GIS files to allow for planning of actions to limit impacts of emerging invasive species and carry out scientific assessments the effectiveness of different control strategies.
The appointment requires a National Diploma / Higher qualification in Information Management, Environmental Sciences or Biology coupled with at least 2-5 years relevant experience in GIS. Knowledge of ESRI GIS software will be an added advantage. In addition, the successful candidate should demonstrate the ability to maintain sound interpersonal relations, have a passion for working with a diversity of people and a good command of spoken and written English (competency in other official languages is an advantage). A valid Code B driver’s license with one year practical driving experience is essential.
Responsibilities will include:
- Design high quality and informative maps, graphics, illustrations and map layouts for the Working for Water - SANBI Early Detection and Rapid Response Programme and other clients by utilizing Arc GIS software.
- Co-ordinate the mapmaking process with staff members or project leaders.
- Plot out maps.
- Provide advice on map designs for the Programme.
- Produce high quality Multi Media products for various projects.
SANBI offers an all inclusive annual salary of R 283 565.34
