Job description – GIS Technician

We are looking for a Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Technician to join our team based in Carlisle. You will be working alongside the Woodland Creation Manager to provide professional GIS support and IT services across the business. Principle Responsibilities

As a GIS Technician, you will provide GIS services and related functions, including data analysis, processing, and visualisation of project objectives in meaningful and understandable ways, such as on maps, graphs, charts, and spreadsheets. You will also undertake project work as directed by the Woodland Creation Manager.

Your day to day will include:

• Providing support in the GIS and data management for the projects across the wider Pryor and Rickett business.
• Contribute to the advancement of GIS solutions for the company.
• Provide a dedicated GIS resource across projects worked on by the company.
• Provide general IT support and services.
• Support forestry operations through in-field surveys.

Training and support will be provided to introduce the successful applicant to company systems and procedures. Further training is provided to allow the candidate to develop their role and specialisms within the business over time.

Who are we looking for?

As a GIS Technician you:

• Have experience in using GIS Software – preferably QGIS.
• Have a high level of IT competency with experience with all Microsoft Office packages.
• Can prepare maps, reports, and other relevant information to a high standard.
• Have an extremely high attention to detail, with the ability to work to tight deadlines.
• Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in written word.
• Work constructively with an experienced and dedicated team, but also be confident in working on your own.
• Are patient and able to solve problems on the fly.
• Will have a geospatial, environmental, or other land or science-based degree or proven experience in previous geospatial role.
• Programming experience (Python, SQL) would be an advantage.
• Have a clean Full UK Drivers Licence.
  

Location

The position will be based in our Carlisle Office. Other locations may be considered based on the right candidate.

Salary and Benefits

• Salary from £24,500+ per annum, with salary dependent upon experience.
• Permanent full time post (a minimum of 40 hours a week.
