Description

The Rainforest Alliance is an international nonprofit organization that works to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behavior. Based in New York City, with offices throughout the United States and worldwide, the Rainforest Alliance works with people whose livelihoods depend on the land, helping them transform the way they grow food, harvest wood and host travelers. 

Position Summary: 

The temporary Front-End Web Developer will be retained for a period of three months. S/he will be responsible for participating in the maintenance, expansion and monitoring of the Rainforest Alliance’s websites and email campaigns. 

Responsibilties: 
  • Update and disseminate Rainforest Alliance emails and e-newsletters;
  • Create, maintain and delete individual Web pages;
  • Code new HTML email templates;
  • Monitor analytics, work to increase site traffic and improve site user experience;
  • Ensure that content on the website is up to date and optimally displayed;
  • Keep current with Web technology and update Web tools accordingly;
  • Participate in coding for special projects;
  • Liaise with program and communications staff on content review and development; and
  • Other tasks as assigned. 
Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree or technical degree in Web programming;
  • Minimum 2 years of website creation and maintenance experience;
  • Experience working for a nonprofit a plus;
  • Strong knowledge of HTML and CSS required;
  • Drupal and Convio experience a plus;
  • Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills;
  • Must be extremely well organized and able to work on multiple projects concurrently;
  • Ability to work within a team structure as well as independently, be creative, take initiative and be very attentive to detail; and
  • Strong interest in biodiversity conservation a plus.
