Introduction

The company is based in Tokai, Cape Town, South Africa. C4 EcoSolutions provides its dedicated, confident, diverse and highly professional consultants a unique and vibrant environment which:

  • motivates them to push the envelope in terms of developing innovative solutions for adapting to climate change and conserving biodiversity;
  • encourages them to work as a team to provide clients with a unique offering of collective intelligence;
  • supports them in producing work that is significant and is contributing to solving the problems facing societies around the world; and
  • assists them in constantly learning and developing themselves.

Background to company

  • C4 EcoSolutions (www.c4es.co.za) operates at the forefront of the international stage – in both the private and public sectors – in the emerging fields of climate change adaptation and mitigation.
  • The international community has committed billions of dollars to climate change initiatives, and at present there is a relative scarcity of experts available to design and implement innovative projects that develop synergies between conserving ecosystems and developing poor, rural communities.
  • C4 has developed considerable experience in such projects across Africa, Asia, Pacific Islands, Latin America and the Caribbean through work conducted with UNEP, UNDP, IFAD, FAO, GIZ, IFC, the South African Government’s Natural Resource Management Programme, and numerous other international private sector clients.
  • C4 is also pioneering the restoration of degraded thicket in the Eastern Cape through the planting of spekboom (Portulacaria afra) cuttings.
  • The company is in the process of expanding its operations and welcomes applicants with environmental science expertise, excellent report-writing skills and experience in environmental consulting to join our team of climate change and environmental professionals

Responsibilities will include inter alia:

Developing and implementing projects on adaptation to climate change in Africa and Asia. The work C4 is undertaking at present includes inter alia developing and/or implementing:

  • a regional adaptation project for the Chinese government, including interventions in Mauritania, Seychelles and Nepal;
  • forest restoration projects in Cambodia, Nepal and Rwanda;
  • a mangrove restoration project in Djibouti;
  • wetland restoration projects in Bangladesh and Rwanda;
  • coastal adaptation projects in Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Tuvalu and Vanuatu;
  • projects on Early Warning Systems in Angola and Lesotho;
  • agriculture and land restoration projects in Afghanistan, Myanmar, Zambia, Eritrea and Lesotho; and
  • large-scale restoration projects in degraded thicket landscapes in the Eastern Cape.
  • Writing consulting reports and scientific papers that are of an exceptional standard in terms of presentation, technical content, grammar, syntax and style.

Qualifications and experience:

The following attributes are required:

  • Fluency in French and in English, enabling excellent oral and written communication in both languages.
  • A minimum of two years experience in an environmental consulting company/environment, or another relevant professional environment.
  • A minimum of a Master’s degree in a natural science-related discipline (e.g. ecology, agriculture, climatology, geography). Master qualifications or equivalent in environmental economics, agronomy, capacity building, social development and public health will also be considered.
  • A demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • A demonstrated ability to work accurately with attention to detail.

The following attributes are preferable:
