Description

 

The Conservation Programs, Climate and Energy department at the National Wildlife Federation is currently seeking a Forestry Program Coordinator to be responsible for providing support to all aspects of our Forestry Program.  This position leads in translating and disseminating relevant forestry information and practices best developed for forest management in the region.

Responsibilities:

  • Helps identify opportunities to engage resource providers (e.g., state, federal, and private) in the region to promote and advance sustainable forestry and related policies.
  • Conducts private landowners outreach, education, and technical assistance
  • Assists in the research, development, and disseminate educational materials (fact sheets, videos) on the benefits of LLP restoration.
  • Gives presentations throughout the region.
  • Generates media attention and positive editorials and op-eds on NWF’s LLP restoration efforts.
  • Works closely with the Alabama TREASURE Forest Association (ATFA) and other partners to advance FSC certification.
  • Supports FSC and other value chain development efforts in Alabama and in the region by working with diverse stakeholders.
  • Identifies funding opportunities, participates in outreach to funders, and assists in proposal development to secure financial resources to support forestry program work.
  • Identifies and pursues market opportunities around sustainable forestry.

Experience:

  • College degree required 
  • Minimum 3 years of programmatic experience or a graduate degree.
  • Relevant natural resource management knowledge and experience desirable.

Skills:

  • Requires a high level of personal initiative
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as excellent analytical skills.
  • Ability to follow directions and work independently as well as with a team.
  • Ability to work on multiple and diverse tasks at the same time.
  • Must be detailed oriented
  • Familiar with MS Office, Outlook, internet research, and collecting and entering data using data collection software.
