For the OEF in Nancy (France), EFI is seeking a forest economist. The post will involve in particular:
- conducting and managing EFI research activities in European forest economics
- initiating new projects and active engagement in fundraising
- networking in the sector of forest economics and strengthening collaboration in Europe in this field
- compiling and analysing European data on e.g. profitability of forests, forest ownership structures, forest land prices, wood-energy
- contributing to EFI concerted action on profitability of European forest ecosystem services and non-wood goods.
The applicant should have a Master’s Degree (or equivalent). An applicant with a PhD in forest economics is preferred. He/she should have as a minimum four years of working experience and knowledge in following research fields:
- economic values/ profitability of forest ecosystem services and non-wood goods
- forest administration and business economics
- wood consumption, trade and potentials of sustainable timber supply
European/international forest policy and information processes. The candidate should be well experienced in the latest methodologies for economic analysis and validation. Some basic knowledge in database management/development would be of advantage. The candidate should have the ability to work and communicate with a broad variety of different stakeholders, researchers and policy makers at the European scale. International experience is of advantage. Fluency in English is required, French and/or German language is an asset. The candidate should have good communication skills and be able to work in an international working environment both independently and in a team. The successful candidate will be expected to take up the post in August/September 2010. The duration of employment will be 2 years with the possibility of extension.
