Description
The Genetics group aims to use genomic discoveries to complement breeding programs for Australia’s major plantation tree species. This position’s key role is to develop and apply bioinformatics to genomics research and develop system biology to link genomics with quantitative, and population genetics and phenomics.  The position will fill a critical shortage in our bioinformatics capability.  The duties of the position will include:
  • Develop and apply bioinformatics’ solutions to solve unique problems in genomic research of tree species (70%) including
    • Data base management, sequence analysis, genome annotation
    • Gene expression, gene network analyses
    • Analyses of association genetics
  • Develop system biology for tree species to integrate allele effects from molecular genetics into quantitative breeding programs and to model processes in biological systems (30%).
  • Close collaboration with scientists working in molecular biology, association genetics, population genetics and quantitative genetics

 Selection Criteria 
   
 

Essential

  1. PhD and/or equivalent and documented research in bioinformatics disciplines or related statistical and computational biology.
  2. Demonstrated conceptual and practical knowledge and skills in genomics and genetic analyses.
  3. Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication, negotiation and representational skills
  4.  Ability to manage and negotiate resource requirements with research managers and clients.
  5. Demonstrated ability to take responsibility for a work area within a multi-disciplinary research team.

Desirable

  1. Experience in molecular biology
  2. Experience in software development
  3. Demonstrated ability in problem-solving and publication
