Florida Conservation Partnerships Manager

A part of Ocean Conservancy’s Florida Conservation team, the Florida Conservation Partnerships Manager will play an essential role in expanding Ocean Conservancy’s presence in South Florida and statewide, underscoring the organization’s reputation in the region as a trusted voice in marine conservation.  Primary areas of responsibility include managing Ocean Conservancy’s partnerships  and partnership activities across the state, including formal partnerships with municipalities and local governments; identifying and pursuing new potential conservation partnerships; building Ocean Conservancy’s brand and reputation in South Florida and across the state, including in Latin(x) communities; and developing and fostering relationships within the South Florida marine conservation stakeholder communities, including environmental non-profits, angling groups, diving groups, and the like. The Manager will report to the Senior Manager and Policy Counsel for Florida Conservation, but may also support others involved with the Florida Conservation team, including development, communications, and cross-programmatic work.

 PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manages Ocean Conservancy’s existing partnerships with regional municipalities and local governments especially in South Florida.
• Identifies and develops new opportunities for partnership development with regional municipalities and local governments.
• Manages existing relationships and develops new relationships with regional environmental non-profits, stakeholder groups, and other regional entities that are interested in Ocean Conservancy’s marine conservation mission.
• Assists with managing and organizing official Ocean Conservancy events, speaking opportunities, summits, and media outreach for South Florida to focus on marine conservation issues in the region.
• Assists with development of policy positions for the organization pertaining to South Florida freshwater and marine ecosystems.
• Assists in the creation of communications materials on issues related to water quality and abundance, harmful algal blooms, sea level rise, climate change, extreme weather, ocean acidification, coral disease and bleaching, oil and gas moratoria, wildlife abundance, shoreline resilience, and habitat protection.
• Performs other tasks as assigned.

 REQUIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

• Preference of one to two years of working for an environmental non-profit focused on the South Florida marine and freshwater ecosystem or in the general Florida environmental conservation arena.
• Demonstrated project management experience, and an ability to manage multiple deadlines with a positive attitude and clear communication.
• Exceptional written and spoken communication skills and polished presence in front of government officials, including municipal representatives. Strong proofreading and editing skills.
• A passion for protecting the Florida ocean and coastal environment and fluency in the environmental threats the state is facing.
• Ability to effectively manage-up to and support senior staff, as well as important organizational constituencies such as development and other programmatic teams.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and function as part of a team.
• Personable, productive and able to successfully manage multiple processes simultaneously without close supervision.
• A proactive problem solver who can bring the creativity, energy, discipline and commitment needed to help the annual giving team operate efficiently.
• A high-level performer who remains attentive to details and adheres strictly to deadlines and deliverables.
• Authentic connection to the work and mission of Ocean Conservancy.
• Fluency in both Spanish and English a plus.

EDUCATION/TRAINING

College degree and 1-2 years of relevant experience working for an environmental non-profit preferred.
