Job Details
Suffolk County Council are looking for a Flood and Water Technician based at
Endeavour House, Ipswich with hybrid working options including some home
working. We can offer you the opportunity to join an enthusiastic, dedicated team

enhance the environment. We will fully support your training needs and career
development if you don’t have all the relevant skills and experience but can evidence
the desire and ability to progress.
Do you have:
  • enthusiasm and desire to work constructively with communities, landowners and partner organisations to reduce the risk of homes flooding
  • recent experience of investigating and resolving minor drainage/flooding issues and dealing with Land Drainage Act consenting and enforcement matters
  • a passion to make a positive difference for the people of Suffolk and our environment?
Your role and responsibilities:
You will be working directly with the public, local authorities and other organisations
dealing with enquiries and finding solutions to reported issues relating to flooding, land
drainage and other water related issues countywide. You will be responsible for
managing your day-to-day schedule of site visits, meetings and tasks. Your key duties
will include:
  • investigation of reported flood and surface water incidents countywide
  • liaising with landowners, community representatives and councillors
  • assessing applications for Land Drainage Act consents
  • negotiation of deliverable solutions to resolve flood and surface water issues
  • monitoring improvements
  • collection and recording of asset data.
You will need:
  • excellent communication and IT skills
  • to be customer focused
  • be a problem solver and solutions focused
  • academic qualifications to GCSE or equivalent in English, Mathematics and a Science subject
  • support others in dealing with high workloads in order to meet team goals. 
The team

You will be based in the Flood and Water Management Team that acts as the Lead
Local Flood Authority. You will work alongside passionate and experienced staff from
across the councils’ services who are all working to deliver a better environment for
the people of Suffolk. You will be presented with excellent opportunities to build

Travelling requirements for your role
Vocational Driving Essential (vehicle provided) - Due to the nature of this role, you
