Position/Project Specifics: Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission is seeking 3 motivated individuals to assist the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to conduct a Before-After/Control-Impact study to assess the impact of in-stream accelerated large wood recruitment on salmonid productivity. This is a multi-year experiment, requiring pre-treatment and post-treatment summer and winter habitat and abundance evaluations. Primary responsibilities include; conducting winter habitat census surveys, constructing, operating and maintaining PIT tag arrays, performing spawning ground surveys, operating adult migrant traps and weirs, operating smolt traps, PIT tagging juvenile salmonids, and collecting clean and accurate data following strict protocols. Secondary responsibilities may include; performing winter snorkel surveys, data entry, management and summary, field and laboratory equipment care, maintenance, and repairs, and compiling administrative records and documents. This position will require working with multiple agencies, technicians, and biologists, so having good interpersonal skills is required. We need motivated, focused, and detail oriented people, who will follow strict field and safety protocols. Candidates must be able to hike up to 8 miles a day, lift up to 50 lbs and perform strenuous field work, orient themselves using topographic maps and GPS units, and properly operate 4wd vehicles and ATV's, all while maintaining a positive attitude. These positions will begin November 4th and go through the end of April. In general, the positions will follow a 4-10 schedule, but some weekend and holiday work will be required. ***This position requires a valid driver’s license and all offers of employment will be contingent upon passing a driving record check. |
