Fisheries Scientist Consultant or Senior Consultant Grade Salary: negotiable + attractive benefit package
Location: Flexible depending on successful candidate but with a preference towards our upcoming Cardiff office
APEM is Europe's largest specialist aquatic science consultancy, offering our clients an integrated approach to every aspect of the scientific study and management of freshwater and marine habitats. As a result of APEM's continued growth and our existing and ever expanding project portfolio in fish screening, entrainment/impingement and hydropower assessments, an exciting new opportunity has been created on the fisheries engineering team.
You will be an enthusiastic individual with a proven track record in general project management at either the Consultant or Senior Consultant grade or be a technical specialist. You will also have specialist fisheries science knowledge and skills to enable you to assist with the management and technical consultancy of projects in the area of fisheries engineering. APEM's fisheries engineering team are currently investigating fish entrainment/impingement, intake screening, cooling water, underwater acoustics, hydropower assessment including fish injury, turbine modelling, barrier removal and fish passage. Our current fisheries engineering project portfolio spans fresh, transitional and coastal waters from large estuarine energy projects to freshwater potable intakes. Fisheries scientists with either freshwater or marine experience but preferably with a knowledge of both will therefore be considered for the role.
You will be self motivated and able to work independently as well as with project teams drawn from our regional offices. You will also have the drive and enthusiasm to expand the current fisheries portfolio within APEM. Thus the ability to communicate effectively and a sense of pride in, and responsibility for your work is paramount.
Depending on the grade applied for we would anticipate candidates will have a minimum of an MSc or PhD or the equivalent professional experience, and in excess of 2 years relevant fisheries consultancy experience. Excellent report writing skills are essential for this role and experience of dealing with corporate sector clients is preferred.
At the senior consultant grade you should be familiar with key individuals in the fisheries engineering field and have a track record of working with corporate sector clients at the highest level. You will also have a proven ability to organise work schedules, to meet tight deadlines and to deliver projects within budget.
You will be primarily office-based, although site visits, client meetings and fieldwork are likely to be required which may require overnight stays; therefore, a full driving licence and personal flexibility is essential.
