Description

This is a really exciting time to join the MMO as the UK is now an independent coastal state, embedding new repatriated functions and services with an increased focus on the protection and enhancing of the marine environment. 

This role is currently available within the MMO Fisheries Management Plan and International Team at HEO grade.

Accountabilities and responsibilities:

  • Actively demonstrate the MMO’s commitment to being more outward looking, engaging and working collaboratively with our stakeholders and delivery partners to help achieve shared objectives together.
  • Take active ownership of the development, delivery and management of aspects of project deliverables, working with HEO counterparts within the team, and contribute to the effective delivery of the MMO’s ‘delivering sustainable fishing opportunities’ service.
  • Develop strong links with relevant MMO teams such as Fisheries Management (in particular with regard to FMP implementation), Future Fisheries, Evidence and Evalutation, Regulatory Assurance, Marine Planning, Communications, and provide support when needed.
  • Support the Communications team with both internal and external communications planning and material drafting to ensure communication and engagement activities meet their intended objectives.
  • Assist in the provision of briefing and technical advice to senior leaders within the MMO and Defra on matters relating to delivery of the MMO-led FMPs and the wider FMP programme. 
  • Assist in the provision and coordination of MMO technical expertise to the wider MMO and Defra policy to support the development of MMO-led FMPs, other Defra-led FMPs and UK joint FMPs and their implementation. 
  • Represent the FMP team at engagement events, industry working groups, forums and MMO conferences.
  • Support the Defra FMP programme team where necessary.
  • Support the Principal Fisheries Managers in work relating to developing and drafting Fisheries Management Plans, including evidence collation, stakeholder engagement and content drafting. 
  • Act as a deputy to the Principal Fisheries Managers when needed. 
  • Support the Project Delivery Lead with managing project timeframes and identifying risks/ issues related to the projects. 
  • Any other reasonable duty as defined by the organisation that support the Sustainable Fisheries function.
