KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Independently conduct analyses which illustrate tradeoffs and provide insights for fishery reform strategies and fishery performance.
- Help to develop and enhance bioeconomic models and other analytical tools through the application of computer programming (primarily R) and mathematical modeling skills.
- Help to create and deploy frameworks for evaluating the conservation, economic, and social performance of fisheries and why fisheries perform the way they do.
- Help staff in the FSC to understand on-the-ground challenges of EDF regional teams.
- Develop analyses that help EDF regional teams to develop effective intervention strategies.
- Coordinate efforts with other EDF staff and consultants to ensure comprehensive analysis and streamlined communication.
- Present analysis and findings to policy makers, seafood businesses, and fishery stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in biology, oceanography, fishery social science, fishery economics, marine resource management, or related field.
- Demonstrated ability to independently develop and execute projects of a technical nature.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to balance competing deadlines.
- Proven skills in communication, public speaking and writing.
- Ability to wield the R programming language.
- Excellent research and analytical skills and an interest in performing rigorous analysis in support of highly visible work.
- Demonstrated initiative and problem solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and partners of varied backgrounds and experience.
- Ability to work both independently and in support of a multi-disciplinary team, using independent judgment required to plan, prioritize, and organize diversified workload.
- Strong computer proficiency, including experience with Excel, Word, and Internet research.
- Ability and willingness to travel - up to 20% of the time — including international travel.
