This project is looking for Field Assistants (FAs) for the 2013 nesting season of the critically endangered Leatherback turtle. The work includes leading night patrols on the beach to identify, measure and tag adult turtles, relocate nests into hatcheries or mark them in situ, daily early morning walks to count the turtle tracks and check status of in situ nests, monitor hatcheries, release hatchlings and conduct post-hatching excavations. Applicants should be advanced student or recent graduate in biology or some related field. Previous field experience is an advantage but not essential. FAs are needed from mid-February to late June in Costa Rica, and from early March to mid-July in Panama. In Costa Rica the project continues during the Green turtle season until the end of September, 2013.
FAs receive free board and lodging throughout their stay at the project sites.
