One of the officers of this position will be based in Nairobi and the other in Accra, on a renewable three-year term contract. Both positions will report to the Nairobi-based Director of the Soil Health Program (SHP).
Key responsibilities will include identifying opportunities for AGRA’s support towards improving the procurement, wholesaling and distribution of fertilizers within and across countries; developing innovative financing mechanisms for fertilizer procurement, importation and distribution; identifying opportunities for local production and blending of fertilizers that AGRA could support through funding of pre-feasibility studies; supporting institutional, research and capacity-building in fertilizer procurement and distribution; identifying and developing guarantee arrangements with local banks to increase fertilizer suppliers access to finance and managing awarded grants thereof; working with other AGRA program officers to develop an integrated approach to join project development and implementation; initiating the contracting of grantees and the transfer of monies; and on-going supervisory oversight, monitoring and evaluation of awarded grants. Applicants to this position must have an MSc or MBA with at least 10 years commercial experience in the fertilizer industry, specifically in fertilizer management, procurement and marketing in Africa, as well as relevant knowledge and experience of financing fertilizer. Ex-bankers, previously working on the agriculture portfolio would be suitable candidates for this position. In addition, they should have a minimum of 10 years successful experience in Research and Extension, five of which should have been working on issues of African rural development. Furthermore, the incumbents should have demonstrated ability in developing and implementing high impact fertilizer business strategies as well as effectively working in different agro ecological zones of Africa. |
