About us

As the leading trade association for demand-side energy and heat networks, we represent 160 interested parties from across the energy sector. The ADE works towards two functions, ADE Demand and ADE Heat Networks. This role will be focused on the Demand Function. The energy system needs a 21st vision for demand where every household, commercial business and industrial site should have a commercially viable path to decarbonisation. This work includes consumer-led flexibility and industrial decarbonisation.

Our office in Westminster is an exciting and dynamic place to work, our staff are passionate about making a difference. We work closely with decisionmakers at the forefront of energy policy to shape the future energy market in the UK.

About the role

As the External Affairs Officer (Demand), you will support the ADE’s work to create an energy system that works around energy users and their assets, where millions of users with automated energy provision play a major part in keeping the lights on.

You will be creating written communications, talking to journalists, driving political engagement, posting on social media, organising events and managing the website. Your fantastic communication skills will help ensure the ADE is visible, compelling and making a real impact.

  • Connected with your own established professional network, ideally in energy, politics or the press
  • Experienced planning, organising and running political site visits
  • Experienced in a membership body, managing member feedback, expectations and priorities in a political setting
  • Experienced drafting and editing high-quality written content, including short-form content such as press releases and briefings. As well as long-form political content such as parliamentary inquiry responses
  • Happy working closely with colleagues across the organisation and building important interpersonal relationships
  • Creative and able to generate new ideas, think on your feet and cope under pressure
  • Experienced operating the backend of websites and online platforms such as Mailchimp

  • A strong passion for UK Government, Parliament and Politics, with knowledge of its workings.
  • Experienced in basic graphic design/content generation, through software such as Canva
