Description

If you are passionate about environmental issues and have the technical and data analytics skills to support your desire for change, this is your perfect job!

The Evidence Emergency project is a critical initiative within the Wildlife Trusts federation aimed at addressing the urgent need for robust, data-driven decision-making in conservation efforts. This project recognises the growing importance of digital technologies and data analytics in understanding and protecting wildlife and habitats across the UK.

Funded by Heritage Fund, the project's main goals include enhancing the collection, analysis, and sharing of ecological data across the Wildlife Trusts network, as well as developing innovative digital solutions to support conservation work. It seeks to build capacity for data-driven decision-making while fostering a culture of innovation and knowledge sharing across the federation. A key part of the project is supporting the development of the Wildlife Trust’s Centre of Excellence which will serve to highlight a variety of evidence-based, innovative projects across the federation from which others can learn.

We need a Project Officer with an in-depth understanding of digital technologies and data analytics, an awareness of the context of the UK nature crisis, project management experience and use of project software together with communication skills, an adaptable, flexible approach and a firm belief in evidence-led conservation. The role will be responsible for delivering key components of the Evidence Emergency project and supporting the development of the Centre of Excellence, as well as furthering the internal integration of evidence-based practice into SWT.

Our offices are in Pirbright, Leatherhead and Wisley and our hybrid working policy aims to provide a good work/life balance which can incorporate partial home working.  The salary offered to successful applicants will form part of a benefits package including: above minimum pension contributions, life assurance of 4 x salary, employee support scheme, 22+ days holiday, flexible/hybrid working policy.

This role is 21 hours per week on a short-term contract basis between April 2025 and December 2026.

We are committed to having an inclusive and diverse workplace and encourage applications from backgrounds which may be underrepresented in our sector, including people from minority ethnic backgrounds and people with disabilities.  We aim to offer an interview to all candidates that meet the essential criteria for the post. Please let us know if you require any adjustment to make our recruitment process more accessible.

Please apply using the Application Form available on our website above or provide a full CV and explanatory covering letter, emailed to Ben Siggery, Research & Monitoring Manager ben.siggery@surreywt.org.uk , by midday 24th February 2025. Interviews will be week commencing 3rd March at our Pirbright Office with online participation from some of the interview panel.

Guided by a collaborative vision where we all play a part in connecting nature, we provide expert advice and guidance to landowners and managers, making sure the land we look after leads by example, while inspiring and educating people and organisations across the county on what they

can do. By doing this we will create a Surrey that is full of diverse and abundant wildlife, where nature is at the heart of individual choices, corporate decisions, and local economic and policy making. One that helps tackle the ongoing climate emergency, while supporting the health and wellbeing of all who live here.
