Description

Overview

We’re ZSL, an international conservation charity. Our vision is a world where wildlife thrives and we’re working every day to achieve this. From investigating the health threats facing animals, to helping people and wildlife live alongside each other, we are committed to bringing wildlife back from the brink of extinction. Through the work of our pioneering scientists, our dedicated conservationists and our unrivalled animal experts in our two zoos, we guide and enable others in the UK and all across the world. Inspiring, informing, empowering – working for wildlife.

Role Profile

The #OneLess project has been leading the charge against ocean plastic pollution since 2016, focusing on the pervasive single-use plastic water bottle (www.onelessbottle.org). #OneLess is creating a ‘refill revolution’ in London, transforming the capital into a place where plastic bottled water is a thing of the past and where refilling rules. #OneLess is led by ZSL, in partnership with Forum for the Future, The International Programme on the State of the Ocean, and the Thames Estuary Partnership.

ZSL and the #OneLess team are looking for an Evidence and Evaluation Officer to compile and analyse the evidence and impact of the #OneLess project. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a fast-paced, multi-NGO collaborative campaign, focusing on the issue of marine plastic pollution.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of the #OneLess project including designing and implementing learning and evaluation plans.
  • Design and create a portfolio of evidence to support the impact evaluation of the project.
  • Translate evidence for different audiences and produce reports and other digital and print communications.
  • Develop and implement a strategy to test the impact of a values-based approach to conservation, using the #OneLess project as a case study.
  • Build and maintain relationships with a wide network of stakeholders, including businesses, government, visitor attractions, media and other organisations to learn from the network and progress the aims of the #OneLess strategy.
  • Draw on storytelling, journalistic or social science skills to conduct interviews with a wide range of external stakeholders.

Person Specification

  • An understanding of ‘monitoring, evaluation and learning’ (MEL) for impact.
  • Excellent research skills.
  • Experience of extracting applicable learning from programmes and projects and creating case studies.
  • Excellent writing skills, with journalistic or other storytelling experience preferred.
  • Strong communication skills are essential.
  • Effective at managing projects.
  • Preferably a general understanding of marine conservation, particularly marine plastic pollution.
