This is a temporary, full-time position for up to 8 months specifically for students enrolled in an Environmental post-secondary co-op program.
 
The Community and Employee Engagement Section of the Office of the Deputy City Manager is looking for an out-going and enthusiastic Environmental Co-op Student to take a leadership role in project management and provide hands-on assistance to the team on various projects.
 
This is a fast-paced environment where a small number of staff carry out a large number of projects.  Some work will be carried out in an office setting, while other work will require traveling throughout Edmonton to engage stakeholders and the public in various events and learning sessions.
 
As an Environmental Outreach Officer, you will gain a variety of experience, such as designing display materials, staffing displays, leading Outreach sessions, reviewing policy documents, contributing to website information and reviewing proposals. If you enjoy creating and giving presentations and coordinating public events in a fast-paced work environment, we want you!
 
Functions Include:
  • Contribute to the development of The Way We Green strategy; a city-wide environmental sustainability plan
    Coordinate the development and peer review of outreach materials (e.g., displays, brochures, worksheets, etc.)
  • Contribute content to the internal and external environment websites
  • Staff displays booth and deliver environment-related presentations to internal and external audiences
  • Review and/or develop new display materials and information materials to deliver with CO2RE program and The Way We Green strategy

Qualifications

:
  • Student must currently be enrolled in a post-secondary Co-op program in either Environmental Sciences or Community Development
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills required to engage the public in learning about the environment
  • Existing knowledge of environmental issues
  • The ability to interpret and synthesize information
  • The ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Experience writing for web is considered an asset
  • Strong working knowledge of the following Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Internet Explorer
  • Experience using design software such as InDesign is considered an asset
  • A valid Class 5 Alberta driver's license
  • The ability to lift up to 20 lbs (display materials, etc.)

Note: Applicants may be tested.

 

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday
 
Salary Range: $22.095 - $26.315 (Hourly)
