Description Tengah Island Conservation (TIC) is located on the beautiful island of Pulau Tengah, 16 km off the east coast of peninsula Malaysia in the South China Sea. The island is privately owned by Batu Batu Resort, to whom TIC is funded by. Our conservation and research project aims to study the Green and Hawksbill adult population, increase turtle hatchlings chances of survival through implementing controlled hatcheries; to study and monitor our coral reefs and marine habitats; to do inventory of different terrestrial species; to educate tourists and local communities on the need for turtle and marine conservation in the area; and to develop sustainable relationships with local communities and organizations, encouraging eco-tourism practices.
Other projects for 2019 include, but are not limited to: BRUVS (Baited Remote Underwater Visual Stations), Beach and underwater clean-ups, Beach profile monitoring, Tree nursery & habitat restoration, Micromammal study, Invertebrates inventory, White Belly Eagle study, Educational activities with guests and resort staff.
Applicant Profile Tengah Island Conservation (TIC) is looking for assistants with background in biology, marine biology, environmental sciences and/or related degrees to play an essential role to the continued sustainability of our conservation projects. All the assistants must meet the following requirements in order to be accepted on the programme:
Duration and Starting Dates We offer 4 terms of 9 weeks each, with 4-5 vacancies in each one. All the terms start on a Monday and finish on a Sunday. As the first two weeks are going to focus on training assistants for the different projects, it will be mandatory to get the island on the dates shown below.
Fees Cost of the program (the price is subject to an extra 6% SST): 5000 RM (Malay currency) 100% of our program fee goes towards covering the costs of running the conservation programme. Food, basic shared accommodation, boat transfer in and out of the island, wifi, training and snorkelling/dive gear are included on the price.
*Travelling costs and insurance are NOT included and are covered by the participant.
