Environmental Awareness Facilitator, Georgia (full remuneration plus allowance provided)

CENN (the Caucasus Environmental NGO Network) is looking for a Environmental Awareness Facilitator to take part in a European Voluntary Service (EVS) project. Due to the nature of the project the position is technically a volunteer position, but full remuneration plus a living allowance is provided. The project takes palce in Tbilisi, Georgia.

This is an excellent opportunity for graduates or young people with a passion for environmental work to gain both office and field based experience in the environmental NGO (Non-Governmental Organisation) sector.


CENN

CENN, one of the strongest environmental NGOs in the Caucasus, aims to foster modern and sustainable development values and practices through the bridging of society and environment. CENN strives to build a strong and responsible civil society, good governance and accountable business to safeguard the environment and improve people’s lives. CENN is based in Tbilisi, Georgia and runs projects in the following areas:

  • Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)
  • Climate change mitigation and adaptation
  • Gender and theenvironment
  • Resource management
  • Socio-economic integration
  • Compliance management



Requirements 

No specific skills are required for this position, but the volunteer should:

  • Be dedicated to environmental work, preferably with experience, training or education in an environmental field
  • Be open to new cultures, experiences and be enthusiastic about meeting new people and developing cross-cultural relations
  • Have an Interest in learning about the Caucasus in general and Georgia in particular
  • Be hardworking, punctual and professional
  • Be happy to work in a range of environments on a number of differing activities
  • Be available for 10-12 months
  • Have a strong command of the English language (Russian and Georgian language skills are also considered an asset)


Please note: due to program restrictions this placement is only open to people aged 18-30 who have a permanent address in the UK.


Tasks

The work of the volunteer will be highly varied. Their primary tasks will involve raising awareness about local and global environmental issues in Georgia and providing assistance and added value to existing CENN projects and activities. The volunteer will also have the opportunity to develop their own specific tasks, activities and a personal project. The tasks will include:

  • Engaging in research on a number of environmental disciplines  
  • Raising environmental awareness in Georgia through presentations and discussions on environmental projects and activities
  • Raising environmental awareness in Georgia through a variety of media tools (website, social networks, press releases, etc.)
  • Developing recommendations and ideas to add value to existing CENN projects and initiatives
  • Developing and managing a personal project with the support of CENN



Remuneration

The position is funded by the EU Youth in Action Programme as a part of the European Voluntary Service; funding has already been secured. The funding covers the following:

  • Travel to and from Georgia 
  • All living expenses
  • Volunteer’s allowance
  • Accommodation  
  • Full insurance (including dental)
  • Training and support provided before, during and after the placement
