Description

Founded in 1990 by the five Nordic countries, Nefco is the Nordic Green Bank – the financial institution that provides only green financing. We serve the interests of our owners, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, and work with concrete actions to accelerate the green transition.

We use a wide spectre of financing instruments, including both equity and loans. We are ready to take financial risk in small and medium-sized projects, if there is a green upside. Our involvement makes projects bankable and helps to mobilise other investors. A lot of our work is about risk management. For us, the real risk is not going green. Today we are about 50 employees. Our headquarters is in Helsinki, Finland, in a hub co-located with the Nordic Investment Bank and the Nordic Development Fund.

In our financing activities we expect Return on Impact. We screen and classify project proposals based on their expected impact and monitor the concrete results during and after the finalisation of each project. The Environment and Sustainability (E&S) Department is responsible for these reviews and collects and manages data that is used in Nefco’s impact reporting. The E&S Department works closely with the Communications team to produce relevant reports.

We closely follow the EU’s sustainable finance work and use the EU Taxonomy as reference. Your contribution is needed to improve our sustainability disclosure and assist in project reviews.
